Home Improvements - Expressing an Attitude

Posted on March 8, 2023 by Branden Mausbach

There are numerous issues to handle when doing major home improvements. The entire atmosphere and attitude of the improvements can be considered a key issue.

Amount of Formality

Certain things have a tendency to go with one another. Silk, silver, crystal, brass, china, oil paintings in gilt frames, and draperies to the ground produce an affinity for the other person for example. Leather, built-in bookcases, old books, paneled rooms, coffered ceilings, and dark wood are another band of things that go well together. Another such group might be heavy linen, polished cotton, glass and metal tables, woven baskets, and wicker. There will be the usual exceptions, but things that go together generally have a comparable amount of formality. Their color and texture are essential, too.

Light vs. Dark

Many people are happiest moving into rooms that are bright and sunny in the daytime and are softly lit without glare or sharp contrasts in light during the night. Generally in most rooms, lamps and indirect lighting is the ideal solution. Draperies that leave almost all of the glass in windows uncovered when they are open throughout the day are best for letting sunshine and nice views in and present your home a cheerful feeling.

Just how much sun an area gets must be taken into consideration whenever choosing paint. If an area gets a lot of sun, and you prefer the appearance, a dark color will most likely work. If the area is on the north of your house and has few windows, you may be happier with a light tint of the colour you like.

Small vs. Large

Small rooms can be considered a challenge. Draperies, which control light and privacy without taking on a lot of space in the area, seem sensible in small rooms. Fitted interior shutters, shades, and café curtains have a tendency to work very well. Save voluminous fabric, elaborate swags, and draperies that "puddle" on to the floor for large rooms with high ceilings. Furniture must be scaled to how big is the area, too, although one occasionally sees a tiny room with a few large furniture pieces, which look considerably good and serve the intended function well.

Summary

The largest key is to really know what you want before you begin. Get that answer straight in your thoughts and you also can't fail.
